CIS 577 Assignment 4
                      Winter 1998

This assignment will give you an opportunity to do
some multi-media screen design for a collaborative software
product. You may work with a partner if you wish.

TRO markets a product called PLATO, which has been
described by some as the oldest and most comprehensive
collection of college level computer-based material in
existence. PLATO was originally a mainframe product, became
a PC-based product, and is now migrating to the Internet.

Your task is to design the screen(s) to incorporate video
conferencing capabilities in the PLATO materials. The
purpose of this enhancement is to allow the product to be
used by a learner working with a remote instructor. This
would allow real-time tutoring or technical help requests to
be available "on demand".

PLATO is installed in the CIS Distributed Computing
Lab. CU-SeeMe and MS Netmeeting are installed in the
Hypermedia Lab. I can make Connectix cameras available for
experimentation at home. CU-SeeMe and MS Netmeeting can be
downloaded off the Internet. I can make Internet PLATO
available for your review at home (software and installation
instructions for overnight check out).

The deliverables for this project include: GOMS model
(or equivalent) of user interactions, design rationale,
paper prototype with key screen layouts, and discussion of
the strengths and weaknesses of your design. The write-up
for this assignment is due April 13th.
