About the Department

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), which is responsible for administering the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering programs, has about 325 students enrolled in the sophomore through senior years. Each year approximately 60 - 70 students graduate with a Bachelor's degree in EE/CE and about 20 students graduate with a master's degree in EE/CE. We are proud of our high retention rate which exceeds 60%. While most of the graduates go on to work in industry often in a design and development environment, a few pursue full-time graduate studies at regional and national universities.

February 06, 2012 - UM-D Students 'Study' for a win

Two University of Michigan - Dearborn students were recently named runner-up winners for the Fall 2011 Mobile Apps Challenge .

Cory Woolf, an ECE student, and Brandon King, a CIS major, teamed up to develop the WeStudy app. The app allows students to easily schedule study groups and integrates mapping and e-mail connectivity.

The challenge is hosted by the Mobile Apps Center at the U of M campus in Ann Arbor. Participants are allowed to submit as many mobile apps as they wish, and are judged based on creativity, usability, and utility by experts from U of M, Apple, and Google.

Woolf and King were awarded an iPad for their contribution to the challenge. The team was supervised by Associate Professors Paul Watta (ECE) and Brahim Medjahed (CIS).

For more information on the WeStudy app, visit Woolf's and King's YouTube video or try out the app online.  A full list of winners will be posted on on the Mobile Apps Challenge website in February.
