Symposium on Materials for Lightweight Vehicles
When:   December 8, 2009, 8:30 am-4:30 pm
Where:   BorgWarner Auditorium IAVS
About:   Symposium on Materials for Lightweight Vehicles

The Center for Lightweighting Automotive Materials and Processing (CLAMP) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is organizing a one-day Symposium on Materials for Lightweight Vehicles on December 8, 2009. The purpose of the Symposium is to bring together researchers and practitioners for discussions on the recent status/outcome/applications of some of the current R&D efforts on lightweighting automobiles. It will also provide a forum for exchanging information, expressing views, and developing dialog on the future research needs of structural automotive materials.

The Symposium will include a few invited presentations, but there will be ample opportunity for the participants to ask questions and engage in informal discussions on related technical issues and concerns. The participants will be engineers, managers, researchers and students interested in gaining knowledge on research being conducted at automotive companies, national labs, universities and material suppliers/ organizations. The invited presentations will encompass various material disciplines such as steel, aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, polymer matrix composites, etc. One of the objectives of the Symposium will be to promote \\\"interdisciplinary\\\" thinking for vehicle weight reduction.

This is a free event; however, to plan for the meeting and meals, pre-registration by December 2 is required. Please indicate your interest in attending the symposium by either calling Sherry Boyd at 313-593-5582 or sending an e-mail with your name, company affiliation and contact information to sjboyd@umich.edu.
